I Hate therefore I am Cool
June 13, 2008
You`ve seen him many times before on Orkut or facebook or myspace, you hear them bellow during every match and you even periodically see them on internet chat groups and message boards. They are the unpaid critics of things popular.
These creatures get a sense of belonging and worth by rabidly opposing anything and anyone that is popular not on its merits or lack of them, rather as the crux of their very existence. The guiding priciple of all these groups seems to be “I hate <insert popular figure or team name here> and i love <insert name of not so successful and much less popular ,hence elite personality or team here> hence i am an expert “.
Anyone who disagrees with their views is classified as ignorant. For illustration purposes lets consider football (soccer if you happen to be from North America) now the entire idea of people from outside Britain rabidly supporting teams from the English Premiere League (the EPL) is downright hilarious to me, personally i love Arsenal not cause I`m from North London but cause I love the way Arsene Wenger makes a team of Talented but raw players into a world beating side.Something Chelsea and Manchester United never seem to do in recent years they prefer buying pre packaged players off the shelf, which explains my dislike for them.
Now consider the haters, they will instantly hate whichever team is #1 in the rankings just because they are #1,during the years that Arsenal was known as “The Invincibles” the haters hated everything about them and proceeded to love Liverpool with a frenzy that would make the residents of Merseyside blush. They also seem to forget that Liverpool traditionally has a long standing rivalry with Everton for reasons that have more to do with Geography than anything else, but Haters being from countries other than the U.K do not put much faith in things like History and Geography.
Another favorite for haters is Formula 1 or F1,in India atleast they sprung up almost overnight once Ferrari started to win everything, they consistently see Ferrari as nothing short of the Umbrella Corporation or maybe perhaps the Union Aerospace Corporation
Conspiracies abound according to the Haters, with rules bent to favour them, race stewards bought over to give favourable decisions and general craziness that would make Jerry Fletcher call Shenanigans. The haters here typically will favour Mclaren not because Mika Hakkinen was a great driver ,not because it was once home to a versatile driver like Emerson Fittipaldi and finally not even cause Ayrton Senna once raced for them,no the simple reason is that they hate Ferrari and Mclaren has been the main rival of ferrari in Mordern F1.
So when Lewis Hamilton crashes into Raikonnen they make comparisons to Raikonnen crashing into Sutil conviniently forgetting that apart from the fact that both incidents involved crashes invovlving a Ferrari there really is not much else the same between a race track incident on a wet circuit and driver error in the pit lane.So if you know someone who is a Hater please let me hear your stories about them,if you don`t like commenting mail me : ![]()
